Maintenance Free Dry Air Generator

Water-Cooled Laser Beam Dump

This Water-Cooled Laser Beam Dump is specifically designed for 2.94 and 2.78 μm lasers. The absorption lengths in water at these wavelengths are extremely short and tend to build up heat in a very localized region, behind the back side of the Calcium Fluoride front window. This leads to high temperature in this region, and can therefore, crack the window. To prevent the catastrophic damage of the front window, the cooling water is flown against the back side of the window, taking the heat away from the localized region. This design prevents the damage of the front window, resulting from the extremely short absorption lengths in water at 2.94 and 2.78 μm. All of the wet parts of this Water-Cooled Laser Beam Dump are either stainless steel or plastic. This design prevents the Galvanic Reaction in water so that no contamination is introduced into the cooling fluid system.
